BBQ & Community Involvement

Dickeys-BBQ-Pit300Dickey’s Barbecue Pit – many of you know them for their perfectly prepared food and friendly environment, but what many of you don’t know is how much they give back to their community. Dickey’s operates 5 restaurants in Kansas and Missouri, with two more locations opening in 2016, and they are committed to making a huge impact in each community they call home.

In the last year, Dickey’s has donated more than 300 sandwiches to artists and volunteers for the Kansas City Chalk and Walk Art Festival. This is a free event, showcasing artists around the area. It is a 2-day festival at Crown Center and is held by a non-profit that brings arts to the community.

In addition to the Kansas City Chalk and Walk Art Festival, they donated 400 sandwiches for the last two years to participants and volunteers for Run for Little Hearts, which raises money for CHD (congenital heart disease in newborns.) Dickey’s is very proud of their involvement with this group and loves watching it grow. They are excited to take part again this year.

Dickey’s has actively participated in fundraising events such as Lee’s Summit Back to School Family Help Day and multiple school team donations, sports, and small non-profits.

One of the coolest things Dickey’s does as employees is give back 50 percent of all tips to a organization. This spring, they will be making a donation to the YMCA of Greater KC for about $10,000 to go to swim programs, a 5k and youth programming. Dickey’s would like to expand this partnership with the YMCA’s in Wichita and Topeka.

As an employer, Dickey’s has been a second chance employer for many people. “We work a lot with work release participants and those who are working to put their lives back together,” said Ryan Wenrich, owner of Dickey’s. “We have found a lot of success in working with these individuals and generally, we have found them to be our hardest workers.”

We are proud to work alongside such a great company and great leadership! Be sure to visit Dickey’s Barbecue for your next lunch break!
